MCC Safety Policy

Safety is our top priority at MCC. While climbing carries an inherent risk, we do our best to minimise that risk and allow our customers to climb in as safe an environment as possible. Climbers are reminded that while every precaution is taken by MCC to promote safety, personal responsibility must be taken for the safety of individuals in the centre. Unsupervised climbing is just that! Please refer to our Conditions of Use for guidelines on personal safety.

ABC
We are a member of the Association of British Climbing Walls. This organisation provides benchmark standards of safety and good practice and encourages the owners and staff of climbing walls to work to a high standard. In order to become a member of the ABC, walls must reach and maintain a high standard of practice in all areas. www.abcclimbingwalls.co.uk

AALA
We are accredited by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority. AALA is a government sponsored scheme set up in 1996 to ensure that providers of activities for Under-18’s are meeting safety standards and providing quality services. Licenses are reviewed every 2 years, when premises, equipment, and practices are thoroughly inspected. www.aala.org

CRB Checks
Our staff are subject to Enhanced Disclosures from the Criminal Records Bureau. This ensures that they have not been convicted of any crimes that would make it illegal or inappropriate for them to work with members of the public. Anyone not meeting the criteria to pass the Enhanced Disclosure will not be employed by MCC. www.crb.gov.uk

MCC uses the best quality equipment, and weekly equipment checks are carried out to ensure no faults or damage has occurred. Any piece of equipment found to be faulty, or in danger of becoming faulty, is discarded and destroyed.

We have invested in rubber crumb flooring under all our top-rope and lead routes. While this does not remove the problem of climbers falling, it comes highly recommended as a means of reducing the impact of a fall, and the injuries resulting from it. It in no way guarantees the safety of a climber falling from a route, and should not replace good belaying as a means of staying safe!
